Standards of Participation
At Hawthorne Middle School we believe that students should maintain high academic and behavior standards of which they can be proud.
If students receive any of the following during a trimester, they will lose their eligibility to participate in extracurricular activities. If eighth graders lose their eligibility for two trimesters, they forfeit the privilege to participate in the promotion dance and all extracurricular activities. An appeals process is in place for parents to voice their concerns over their child's loss of promotions privileges. Parents of eighth grade students will be notified each trimester that their child has lost extracurricular privileges. Students lose their extracurricular participation privileges when they receive any of the following during one trimester:
|
|
|
|
1. |
More than one F (failing) or I (incomplete) grade on their report card. (Identified special needs students will be given individual consideration.) |
2. | More than one U (unsatisfactory) in behavior and effort on report card. 5 or more tardies to school will result in a U in behavior in the student's 1st period class.
3. | Excessive absences (ten or more absences per trimester, excluding serious medical conditions with a Doctor's note).
4. | Three or more office referrals.
5. | Three or more days of suspensions. (In-School or out of school).
6. | Severe clause: Students arrested for any illegal activity will automatically lose all privileges for the remainder of the year. |
It is very important that all students know our guidelines and standards for extracurricular participation. Please read and discuss this information with your child.
