A.V.I.D. English

What is A.V.I.D.?

A.V.I.D., Advancement Via Individual Determination, is an elementary through postsecondary college readiness system that is designed to increase school wide learning and performance. The A.V.I.D. system accelerates student learning, uses research based methods of effective instruction, provides meaningful and motivational professional development, and acts as a catalyst for systemic reform and change.

A.V.I.D. Contract

Student Responsibilities:
  • Achieve and maintain a successful grade point average of 2.5 or above. HOW?
  • Maintain satisfactory citizenship in all classes & school related events.
  • Maintain good attendance (including tardies) in all classes.
  • Complete all homework assignments and commit to at least 2 hours of homework and studying every night.
  • Promote a positive image of HMS and the A.V.I.D. program to fellow students and the community.

Parent Responsibilities:

  • Monitor student work habits.
  • Monitor student attendance.
  • Collaborate with the A.V.I.D. teacher to ensure student success.
  • Mandatory attendance to HMS parent conferences and A.V.I.D. meetings.
  • Be available for chaperoning field trips. 

 

Must-haves for A.V.I.D.

A.V.I.D. Binder:
  • Must be brought to class every day
  • Binder Checks every Friday
Tutorials:
  • Tutorials will be held every Tuesday and Thursday
Cornell Notes:
  • Cornell Notes must be formatted correctly
  • All Cornell Notes have to be submitted with a summary
