Akila Jones has been with the Hawthorne School District for nearly 20 years.  Her first teaching position was first-grade at Eucalyptus Elementary.  She later moved to Hawthorne Middle School where she has held three positions: Special Projects teacher (2006), Assistant Principal (2014) and currently as Principal.  This will be her 2nd year as principal of Hawthorne Middle School.

Ms. Jones is excited about beginning a new school year! With the start of a new year comes the opportunity for a fresh start, for new goals to be set and plans put in to place to achieve those goals.  Ms. Jones and her staff are confident that the students at Hawthorne Middle School will continue to thrive as they are being challenged through rigorous academic programs while gaining exposure to enriching sports, technology, and theatrical activities. Building professional relationships with parents and families is very important to Ms. Jones. Parent volunteers are always welcome to assist at HMS.  Please inquire with the school’s office.

For fun, Ms. Jones enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, traveling, camping and visiting national parks. Ms. Jones is a lifelong learner who enjoys traveling and learning about the world through experiences. This past summer she visited San Francisco and Jamaica.

    HMS Uniform Policy

All students must adhere to the mandatory uniform policy implemented at Hawthorne Middle School.  All students will be required to wear the established uniform on a daily basis.

    Parent Center

Attention all parents! Have you visited our parent center yet? HMS has a fabulous parent center located in Room 5. The parent center has two computers with internet use so parents can check grades or research information. We also have textbooks, parenting tips, school, community, and nutrition information. We welcome parents to come in and check it out.
    Traffic and Drop-Offs

Please remember that it is a violation of the vehicle code to drop off students in front of the barricade on 129th street if you are not parked in a designated area. Also, stopping to park and drop off students in the alley off of 129th is prohibited. The gated parking lots are for employee parking only. We open this gate for parent nights and for the ALL program pick up only. Thanks for your support!
