HMS Cheer Squad

The Hawthorne Middle School Cheer Squad is a group of sixteen energetic and spirited students who have outstanding academic and citizenship marks. They were selected through a weeklong try out in which forty interested students acquired teacher recommendations and learned a challenging routine. Only students who displayed commitment by showing up every day and having excellent grades and teacher recommendations were chosen. While promoting the school’s spirit, cheer squad members are expected to follow all school rules and have high academic marks throughout the school year.

Every Tuesday and Thursday the squad practices cheers and dances to perform at the school’s football and basketball games.  In addition to games, they will also perform in a cheer competition, the HMS talent show and the Lawndale Youth Parade. At the 2012 parade, the HMS Cheer Squad took 1st place among four other middle schools competing in the cheer and dance category. HMS is proud to have such a talented and spirited group of students representing the Hawthorne School District.

Cheer Squad Takes 1st Place

Our lady hawks took first place in the cheer competition on Sunday, March 22, 2015. The lady hawks also got a trophy for being the most enthusiastic squad. Special thank you to Ms. Valdiviezo and Mrs. Figueroa for helping out, cheering on the squad, and even got the squad spirit points for dancing!!
